Title: Senior Care Assistant
Location: Burnham on Sea
Reports to: Care Manager
Accountable to: Operations Manager, Care Manager
Accommodation:
Support with accommodation available if required.
Job Summary:
To work with and provide supervision to, a team of caring staff in identifying and endeavouring to meet the needs of each resident in a way that respects their dignity and promotes their independence.
Key Tasks:
1. To deliver a high standard of care to all residents and those receiving day or respite care.
2. Supervise and motivate all Care Assistants and function efficiently as a member of the team.
3. To assist residents with those activities which they would normally do for themselves but cannot now do without assistance, encouraging optimum level of independence, maintaining dignity and self esteem.
4. To provide care, as written down in the Care Plans set out by the Care Manager and in the absence of the Care Manager on any admission be able to draft a Care Plan. Be aware of any changes that may need to be made to Care Plans and inform the Care Manager.
5. To be able to set up all documentation on admission of a new resident in the absence of the Care Manager or her Deputy.
6. Develop helpful, caring relationships with residents and their families, treating them with respect, kindness and providing support and sympathy when required.
7. To report any perceived dangers in a resident’s condition.
8. To take every opportunity to develop residents skills and knowledge.
9. To maintain confidentiality.
10. To oversee a specific `team’ in terms of all standards, resident welfare and Keyworker system.
11. Advise the Care Manager or Directors of any maintenance issues that come to your notice.
12. To ensure that cleanliness and hygiene are maintained to a high standard and report any shortcoming to the Care Manager or Directors.
13. To identify personal training and development needs and participate in the Staff Personal Development Programme.
14. To uphold the high standards of professionalism and courtesy in dealing with both clients and visitors to the home.
15. Responsibility for ensuring clothes are labelled and throughput is carried out efficiently i.e. unmarked laundry to be traced to owner and labelled accordingly.
16. To observe and report to the Care Manager any practice that is considered inappropriate to the Philosophy of Care in the Home.
17. To set an example to junior staff by maintaining a smart appearance at all times and take a pride in your role.
18. Be aware of and understand the philosophy of care of the home and understand the concept of individualised care.
19. Ensure that all documentation is maintained and complies with Essential Standards of Quality and Safety.
To undertake any other tasks as required by the care Manager or a Director which are within the scope of the Senior Care Assistant’s knowledge.
