About The Services:
Our client's Philosophy on the Adolescent Units are that every young person with a mental illness has the ability to recover.Our adolescent service aims to provide high quality assessment, treatment and rehabilitation in partnership with the NHS, The Service provides a therapeutic milieu that supports young people, working together and with a highly experienced multidisciplinary team to make sense of what is happening to them.
Our young people are supported in sharing their experiences and developing strategies for peer support and reconciliation with their friends and family
Our Model:
Our Adolescent Services are for male and female adolescents who are high risk, have dual diagnoses or complex problems, who need intensive care or secure care for
absconding behaviour.
The Role:
Your role will be to provide leadership and direction within the ward environment by creating, implementing and supporting a continuous program of development in clinical practice in order to ensure that high standards in patient care are met. This position reports to the Senior Nurse for the Adolescent services in addition to having overall responsibility for managing all qualified staff and support workers within the Service Unit allocated .
This position offers a great opportunity for the right person for further development both Clinically and Management responsibilities
Hours 40 per week Monday to Friday and on call responsibilities
Base Salary: £32,422 per annum negotiable dependent on experience
Requirements:
Management:
Manage and develop the nursing team in accordance with good employment practices and organisational policies ensuring professional standards are maintained.
Ensure appropriate and cost effective allocation of nursing resources across all service to meet assessed needs and patient census
Ensure attendance and planned absences are monitored and co-ordinated with an appropriate allocation of skill and gender mix according to the patient group
Exercise leadership ensuring sound organisation of roles and responsibilities, good communication and relationships with all multidisciplinary colleagues.
Ensure compliance with Alpha Hospitals’ policies and procedures through ‘read & sign’ process
In conjunction with multidisciplinary colleagues contribute to the development of the service through the development and review of ward manual, ward philosophy and induction booklet for staff and a welcome / information booklet for patients which outlines services provided
Contribute to budgetary and human resource management to ensure effective use of resources
Provide written monthly reports summarising achievements, goals and write clear objectives for the following month.
Identify link staff for key functions; monitor performance and provide support.
Provide monthly departmental report.
Act up for Senior Nurse during absences as directed
Participate in on-call rota
Abide by guidelines and hospital policies and procedures
Contribute to the development and review of ward manual and philosophy
Staff Responsibility:
Undertake RAG reviews to reviewing performance, setting objectives and providing regular feedback and identifying areas for improvement
Investigate misconduct or performance issues in accordance with organisational procedures; prepare management case as directed.
Undertake return to work interviews.
Provide monthly supervision for direct reports
Provide support to staff and patients at all times respecting boundaries and taking instruction and advice for all senior staff.
Clinical and Professional:
Ensure all nursing care procedures and treatments reflect professional, national and local standards for the service
Support the use of multidisciplinary clinical assessment tools as part of the care pathway for individual patients.
Ensure all clinical reports (e.g. liaison, MHRT, CPA) are developed for individual patients and meet identified deadlines
Ensure compliance with CQC; CQUIN, QNIC and Low Secure standards
Ensure review of incidents in order that lessons can be learned and information shared
Ensure individual health records maintain an accurate account of treatment and care planned and provided and an evaluation of its effectiveness
Ensure an individual’s right to confidentiality is respected and practiced
Ensure consent is obtained and recorded in an appropriate manner
Ensure patients’ physical needs are addressed
Support and contribute to clinical and security audit process ensuring action plans are implemented by target dates
Ensure own supervision and those of others meet agreed standards of frequency
Ensure all safeguarding requirements are met.
